Target Staff

All agencies that have responsibility for assessing the needs of children via early help, Child in Need and/or Child Protection, and for those organisation and delegates who have a designated role for safeguarding and/ or those who are named in the SSCP multi agency partnership published arrangements document as a relevant partner.

This course will update your Level 2 certificate to continue to be the Designated/Deputy Safeguarding Lead in your organisation for another 2 years.

Practice Outcomes

Increase participants’ awareness of and response to protecting children who are both at risk of or currently experiencing Intra-familial child sexual abuse.

 

Learning Outcomes

  • To understand the typology and prevalence of both intra and extra-familial child sexual abuse, including sibling abuse
  • Have considered how inherent attitudes and beliefs around sexual, physical and emotional development can have an influence on our ability to safeguard.
  • Understand and promote the importance of hearing the child’s voice and understanding their lived experience. Creating opportunities for children to disclose. (Voice of the child case study is available to the presenter on commission)
  • Due to prerequisite e-learning a quick overview of the legal and statutory guidance as well as local protocols in relation to safeguarding and child sexual abuse and consider the common features for families where child sexual abuse occurs including with regards to protected characteristics.
  • Have learnt to recognise the indicators of Intra-familial child sexual abuse including behavioural and physical markers.
  • Have an awareness of the perpetrator, their modes operandi, behaviour and ability to groom and deceive not only the child but the childs family and those professionals working with the child and family. Understanding the application or interpretation of the legislation and guidance for sexual offending, inc PPRC and what this means for everyday practice.
  • Have an awareness of good practice and relevant agencies who can offer therapeutic support and interventions for children and families. Including local offer.
  • To promote the importance of multi-agency working and cooperation.
  • Understanding of the SSCP procedures and guidance in particular the Threshold Framework and Escalation Policy.
  • Highlight the lessons learnt from national and local child safeguarding practice reviews, including rapid reviews (where relevant)
