Detail:

This course is available for people working with children and families in Stoke-on-Trent. For those working with children and families outside of Stoke-on-Trent, please contact your local Safeguarding Children Partnership.

Participants must have undertaken SSCP Level 1 Child Protection training and SSCP Level 2 Working Together to Safeguard Children before attending this course.

This course will update your Level 2 certificate to continue to be the Designated/Deputy Safeguarding Lead in your organisation for another 2 years.

 

TRAINING COST:

The cost to attend this Level 4 course is:

  • £50 per person
    (With the exception of the three statutory safeguarding partners, voluntary, faith, charitable
    and community interest company organisations).

 

Target Staff

  • A lead responsibility for Safeguarding including Designated/Lead Officers, e.g. Designated teachers, managers responsible for child protection in early years settings and council child protection officers.
  • You may have operational responsibility for receiving concerns about the safety and welfare of children and young people, who make decisions about what action needs to be taken.
  • You may have strategic responsibilities in addition to the operational role.

Pre-requisites

Applicants must have undertaken Level 1 Child Protection and Multi-agency Level 2 Working Together to Safeguard Children training with Stoke-on-Trent Safeguarding Children Partnership.

Course objectives:

  • Understand the role of the Designated/Lead Safeguarding Children Officer and key areas of responsibility.
  • Key legislation and guidance underpinning your organisations policy
  • Understand the concerns staff and volunteers may have when reporting concerns
  • Decision making when a child discloses abuse, or when a member of staff/volunteer reports abuse
  • Keeping timely, accurate, confidential records
  • Awareness of the emotional aspect of safeguarding
